The château stands on the site of the original castle of Břetislav I, who gave the region its name: Břeclav.

As early as the 11th century, Břetislav I built a castle here, which was later rebuilt in the 16th century by the Žerotín family into a Renaissance château. The Liechtensteins later transformed it into a romantic artificial ruin.

Today, reconstruction is underway to restore its original Renaissance form. For now, you can visit at least the château tower viewpoint, offering a panoramic view of Břeclav and its surroundings.
