In the 9th century, a large Slavic settlement stood here. The Liechtenstein family later built an Empire-style château on the same site in 1812. Since 1958, archaeological research has been ongoing here.
In September 2023, a new archaeological exhibition opened at Pohansko château. It features audiovisual effects, touch screens, short films, and interactive elements that help visitors explore the rich history of the Great Moravian settlement.
